The Indian electric vehicle market is currently a hotbed of innovation, and Vietnamese giant VinFast is making one of the most calculated moves of the year. Ahead of its official price announcement on April 15, 2026, VinFast has confirmed a dual-identity strategy for its latest offering. While private buyers will be introduced to the premium VF MPV 7, the commercial sector will see the return of a familiar nameplate: the Limo Green.

By separating its retail and fleet identities, VinFast isn’t just selling a car; it’s attempting to solve a classic automotive dilemma—how to capture the massive ride-hailing market without diluting the prestige of its private passenger vehicles.

    One Platform, Two Identities

Under the skin, the Limo Green is identical to the VF MPV 7. Both are underpinned by a dedicated EV platform designed specifically for Indian road conditions. However, the Limo Green will be marketed exclusively under VinFast’s GSM (Green and Smart Mobility) sub-brand.

This fleet-specific variant is tailored for the high-utilization demands of the commercial sector. To comply with Indian taxi regulations and maximize battery longevity, the Limo Green comes with a factory-capped top speed of 80 kmph. Inside, the cabin replaces some of the luxury leatherette found in the retail version with more durable, easy-to-clean materials suited for back-to-back passenger shifts.

The Tech That Powers the Fleet

Commercial operators prioritize two things: range and charging downtime. The Limo Green delivers on both:

    • Range: It features a 60.13 kWh LFP battery pack, delivering a real-world range of over 450 km (NEDC). This is crucial for fleet operators who need a vehicle that can survive a full day of city transit on a single charge.
    • Rapid Recovery: Perhaps the most vital spec for a taxi is its charging speed. The Limo Green supports 80 kW DC fast charging, which can juice the battery from 10% to 70% in just 30 minutes.

    Strategic Positioning: The “GSM” Advantage

VinFast’s decision to launch the Limo Green under the GSM banner is a page from its successful playbook in Vietnam and Indonesia. GSM operates as a mobility-as-a-service platform, meaning VinFast isn’t just selling the car to fleet owners—it’s building the ecosystem.

In India, this strategy targets the “middle-mile” mobility gap. As cities like Delhi and Bengaluru tighten emission norms for commercial vehicles, fleet aggregators are desperate for a reliable, purpose-built electric 7-seater. The Limo Green steps into a market with very few direct rivals, primarily competing with the BYD eMax 7 and the upcoming Kia Carens EV.

    The Bottom Line

VinFast is playing a long-term game in India. By launching a dedicated fleet model, they are ensuring that their vehicles become a common sight on Indian roads through sheer volume, while simultaneously protecting the resale value and “premium” status of the VF MPV 7 for private owners.

As the factory in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, begins to ramp up production, the Limo Green could very well become the new face of sustainable urban transit in India.

Do you think fleet-only branding is the right move for new EV entrants, or does it matter to you if your personal car is also used as a cab? Let’s hear your take in the comments!
