The landscape of high-end performance has shifted. Following the official transition on January 1, 2026, Alpina is no longer an independent tuner but a fully integrated standalone brand within the BMW Group. Positioned as the bridge between the aggressive BMW M division and the celestial luxury of Rolls-Royce, the new “BMW Alpina” sub-brand has just confirmed its roadmap for the next three years.

As part of this “Modern Exclusivity” strategy, the brand will officially focus its development on the BMW 7 Series and the BMW X7. This move streamlines the portfolio, focusing on “flagship-only” platforms to compete directly with Mercedes-Maybach.

The Return of the B7: A 617hp Flagship

The most anticipated announcement is the return of the Alpina B7 sedan. After a brief hiatus, the new B7 is slated to debut alongside the 2027 7 Series facelift later this year.

    • The Powertrain: For the first time, Alpina will utilize a 4.4-litre V8 Mild-Hybrid (MHEV) engine, estimated to produce 617 hp. This allows the B7 to bypass strict European emission laws that have recently sidelined the standard V8 7 Series in several markets.
    • A New Identity: In a major departure from tradition, the new B7 will carry its own internal BMW chassis code—G72—marking it as a separate engineering project rather than a modified G70.

The XB7 Manufaktur: A Final Ode to Buchloe

While the brand moves toward total integration, it is also celebrating its roots. The 2026 BMW Alpina XB7 Manufaktur was recently revealed as a limited edition of just 120 units. This serves as the “swan song” for the current era, featuring:

    • Exclusive Palette: Frozen Alpina Green and Frozen Alpina Blue matte finishes.
    • Hand-Finished Interior: Lavalina leather steering wheels and numbered console plaques.
    • Performance: 631 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque, capable of hitting 180 mph, making it the fastest three-row SUV on the market.

    “Technology Open”: The Electric Horizon

The new era also brings a fundamental shift in philosophy. BMW R&D chief Joachim Post confirmed yesterday that the brand is “technology-open” regarding electrification. This means that future Alpina models will likely offer fully electric (EV) variants alongside high-output combustion engines. An “i7-based” Alpina is rumored to be in the testing phase, focusing on silent high-speed cruising rather than track-day agility.

What Makes a BMW Alpina in 2026?

Despite the corporate merger, the hallmarks of Alpina remain. Future models will continue to feature:

    1. Hand-Painted Deco-Sets: The iconic side stripes will now be hand-painted by specialists in BMW’s high-luxury facilities.
    2. 20-Spoke Classic Wheels: A reinterpreted, forged version of the signature wheel design.
    3. The “Cloud-like” Ride: While M cars focus on lap times, Alpinas are tuned for maximum torque and road compliance, designed to cross continents at triple-digit speeds in total silence.

With production moving entirely to BMW’s Dingolfing and Spartanburg plants, the brand is ready to scale its bespoke craftsmanship for a new generation of connoisseurs.
