Volkswagen has officially filled the seven-seater void in its Indian portfolio. Launched today, February 19, 2026, the Volkswagen Tayron R-Line arrives at an introductory price of ₹46.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Effectively replacing the Tiguan Allspace, the Tayron is being locally assembled (CKD) at the brand’s facility in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, allowing it to undercut several full-size luxury imports.

    Design: The IQ.Light Revolution

The Tayron isn’t just a stretched Tiguan; it’s a more intimidating machine.

    • The Stance: It is 253mm longer than the standard Tiguan, with a wheelbase stretched to 2,789mm to accommodate the third row.
    • Signature Lighting: It features the latest IQ.Light HD Matrix headlamps and a massive connected LED light bar. For the first time, both the front and rear Volkswagen logos are illuminated, a detail usually reserved for the ID. electric series.
    • R-Line Flair: Sitting on 19-inch “Coventry” alloy wheels, the R-Line trim adds high-gloss black air intakes and “R” badging on the front fenders, giving it a sporty, “dark-out” aesthetic.

    Interior: A 15-inch Command Center

The cabin of the Tayron R-Line is a significant step up in digital real estate.

    • The Screens: The dashboard is dominated by a free-standing 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit.
    • First-Class Seating: Front occupants get 12-way electrically adjustable ErgoActive seats that feature not just ventilation and heating, but an 8-mode massage function.
    • Utility: While the third row is best reserved for children, folding it down reveals a staggering 850 litres of boot space, which expands to 1,905 litres with all rear seats tucked away.

    Performance: The EA888 Powerhouse

Under the hood is the legendary 2.0-litre TSI (EA888 evo4) engine.

    • The Output: It produces a healthy 204 PS and 320 Nm of torque, paired exclusively with a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission.
    • Go Anywhere: Volkswagen’s 4MOTION All-Wheel Drive is standard, offering six selectable driving profiles to handle everything from highway cruises to slippery trails.
    • The Sprint: Despite its size, the Tayron can hit 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds before reaching its limited top speed of 224 km/h.

    Safety: The 5-Star Fortress

Safety remains VW’s non-negotiable pillar. The 2026 Tayron comes equipped with nine airbags and a comprehensive Level 2 ADAS suite. This includes Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Assist, and Autonomous Emergency Braking. It also features a 360-degree camera with a multi-view function for easier parking in tight urban spaces.

    Verdict

At ₹46.99 lakh, the Tayron R-Line is a direct challenge to the Skoda Kodiaq and the Jeep Meridian. It offers a more modern, tech-focused alternative to the aging Toyota Fortuner, making it the definitive choice for the buyer who wants German engineering and three-row practicality without crossing the ₹50 lakh ex-showroom mark.
