Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) has opened the new year on a high note, posting a 25% year-on-year (YoY) increase in SUV sales for January 2026. The automaker moved 63,510 units this month, a significant jump from the 50,659 vehicles sold during the same period in 2025.
This performance underscores the success of Mahindra’s aggressive “SUV-first” roadmap, with the bulk of the volume driven by its core heavy-hitters.
Portfolio Performance Breakdown
The Powerhouses (Scorpio & Thar): The Scorpio/N franchise remains the brand’s primary engine of growth, finding favor in both metro cities and the hinterlands. Meanwhile, the Thar continues to dominate the lifestyle segment, bolstered by a deep backlog of orders and high aspirational value.
The Reliable Workhorse (Bolero): Proving its “evergreen” status, the Bolero maintained its stronghold in semi-urban and rural markets, providing a reliable floor for Mahindra’s monthly totals.
The XUV Lineup: The premium XUV series contributed vital incremental numbers, allowing Mahindra to maintain its market share against stiff competition in the mid-size and compact SUV spaces.

While the YoY growth is the headline story, Month-on-Month (MoM) figures remained largely flat compared to December 2025. This stability suggests that the post-festive “cool down” hasn’t affected Mahindra, as demand remains remarkably consistent heading into the first quarter of the year.

The Bottom Line
Mahindra’s ability to grow at 25% in a market facing various macroeconomic headwinds is impressive. By doubling down on high-demand segments and maintaining a robust product mix, the company has set a high bar for the rest of 2026. If these booking trends hold, the automaker is on track for a record-breaking fiscal year.
