Mahindra has long established itself as the undisputed leader of India’s rugged, body-on-frame SUV market. From the iconic legacy of the Scorpio and Bolero to the lifestyle phenomenon surrounding the Thar, the Indian automaker knows exactly how to build vehicles that conquer broken terrain. However, there has always been one niche segment left mostly uncontested by domestic players: the premium lifestyle pickup truck.
That is about to change. Patent filings leaked in June 2026 reveal that Mahindra has officially patented the production design of the highly anticipated Vision SXT. First showcased as a radical concept on August 15, 2025, the Vision SXT is rapidly transitioning from a designer’s daydream into a production-ready off-roader designed to shake up the lifestyle utility segment.
Breaking Away from Traditional Body-on-Frame Roots
Unlike Mahindra’s traditional ladder-frame platforms, the Vision SXT introduces a massive structural paradigm shift. It is built upon the company’s all-new NU_IQ architecture—a highly advanced, modular monocoque platform designed to support multiple body styles and drivetrain layouts.
While pure off-road purists might worry about the departure from a traditional chassis, the monocoque architecture allows the Vision SXT to achieve massive improvements in high-speed highway stability, cabin NVH (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness) levels, and crash safety.
Visually, the patented images look strikingly similar to the bold concept vehicle. The pickup boasts a heavily squared-off, boxy silhouette that drew instant comparisons to the Land Rover Defender when it first broke cover. Mahindra’s engineering goals for the Vision SXT are incredibly ambitious. The company is actively aiming to achieve a full five-star safety rating in both the Global NCAP and stringent Euro NCAP crash testing protocols. To back up this safety focus, the vehicle will come equipped with an advanced Level 2 ADAS suite, an array of structural reinforcement zones, and electronic stability tracking.
Mechanically, the modularity of the NU_IQ platform means the Vision SXT will satisfy every type of buyer.
