The demand for personalized luxury is hitting an all-time high in the Indian automotive space. Standard luxury appointments are no longer enough for discerning buyers; they want exclusivity straight from the factory floor. Recognizing this shift, Mercedes-Benz India has officially introduced the limited-volume GLE and GLS Night Editions. Bringing a striking, dark-themed visual character to the brand’s two highest-selling luxury SUVs, these exclusive models carry a starting price of ₹1.05 crore (ex-showroom).

Rather than just a superficial sticker job, the Night Edition treatment introduces bespoke aesthetic packages and structural feature upgrades that are completely unavailable across the standard SUV lineup.

The Visual Transformation: Emphasizing the Dark Theme

The core philosophy behind the Night Edition is a sinister, stealthy road presence. Mercedes-Benz has systematically stripped away the traditional bright chrome elements that define the luxury packages of the standard GLE and GLS, replacing them with a high-gloss black treatment.

Up front, the massive grille, front splitter elements, and bumper intake surrounds are completely finished in gloss black. This treatment extends along the sides with blacked-out Outside Rear View Mirror (ORVM) housings, deep-tinted rear windows, and gloss black window line moldings. Even the massive roof rails have been given the dark treatment. To complement this aggressive aesthetic, the SUVs ride on AMG-inspired blacked-out alloy wheels that instantly lower their visual center of gravity.

Mercedes-Benz is offering these limited-series models in just two exterior paint shades: Obsidian Black and a highly coveted Alpine Grey finish. The Alpine Grey color is an absolute highlight here, as it remains entirely exclusive to the Night Edition series and cannot be configured on the standard models.

Inside the Cabin: Monochromatic Opulence

Step across the dark-finished door sills, and the interior echoes the darkened theme of the exterior without compromising on comfort. The standard multi-tone layouts make way for an exclusive all-black Nappa leather upholstery setup.

To break up the monochromatic dashboard, Mercedes-Benz has installed premium Anthracite open-pore oak wooden trim elements across the fascia and door panels. It is a highly textured, matte-finished wood that looks incredibly sophisticated.

Furthermore, the brand has used this launch to standardize high-end features that usually sit on the options list. Both the GLE and GLS Night Editions now receive a crystal-clear Heads-Up Display (HUD) as standard equipment to keep the driver’s focus on the tarmac.

Mechanical Upgrades and Variant Breakdown

Under the hood, the powertrains remain mechanically identical to the standard versions, running through a smooth 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission and sending power to all four wheels via the 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system. However, the variant structure brings one massive surprise for the midsize GLE.

1. Mercedes-Benz GLE Night Edition

The GLE Night Edition is split across petrol and diesel options. Critically, Mercedes has added its advanced AIRMATIC air suspension system as standard on the GLE 300d Night Edition. This marks the very first time Indian buyers can get a factory-backed air suspension setup paired with the highly efficient four-cylinder diesel motor.

  • GLE 300d 4MATIC Night Edition (2.0L Diesel): ₹1.05 crore (Commands a ₹5 lakh premium over standard)
  • GLE 450 4MATIC Night Edition (3.0L Petrol): ₹1.14 crore (Commands a ₹3.50 lakh premium over standard)

2. Mercedes-Benz GLS Night Edition

The flagship three-row GLS flagship receives the same dark treatment across its inline-six powerhouses, elevating its commanding visual authority on the highway.

  • GLS 450 4MATIC Night Edition (3.0L Petrol): ₹1.41 crore
  • GLS 450d 4MATIC Night Edition (3.0L Diesel): ₹1.43 crore

Final Verdict

By charging a calculated premium ranging between ₹3.30 lakh to ₹5.00 lakh depending on the variant, Mercedes-Benz isn’t just selling a styling kit—they are selling scarcity. If you want a full-sized luxury SUV that detaches itself from the standard corporate look in favor of a sportier, more aggressive edge, these limited-run Night Editions make an incredibly strong statement on Indian roads.
