Lexus has officially stepped into the three-row electric arena with the global debut of the Lexus TZ. Revealed on May 7, 2026, this flagship SUV isn’t just an electric version of its siblings; it is a ground-up reimagining of family luxury for the EV era. Positioned above the RZ, the TZ is designed to be a “Driving Lounge”—a space where long-distance travel feels less like a chore and more like a high-end retreat.

With a drag coefficient of just 0.27, the TZ is as slippery as it is sophisticated, featuring a 5,100 mm footprint that ensures every passenger, even those in the third row, travels in first-class comfort.

    1. Power and Range: The Dual-Battery Strategy

Lexus understands that luxury means having options. The TZ will launch with two distinct lithium-ion battery configurations to cater to different driving needs:

    • The Standard Pack: A 76.96 kWh battery for urban-focused luxury.
    • The Long Range Pack: A 95.82 kWh battery targeting a range of up to 530 km (WLTP) or approximately 300 miles (EPA).

The TZ exclusively employs the evolved DIRECT4 All-Wheel Drive system. By dynamically shifting torque between the front and rear motors—ranging from a 60:40 split for stability to 0:100 for a rear-biased sporty feel—the TZ maintains the “Lexus Driving Signature” even on challenging roads. The top-spec variant produces a combined 408 hp, launching this 2.6-ton SUV to 100 km/h in just 5.4 seconds.

    2. Interior: The “Driving Lounge” Concept

The cabin is where the TZ truly separates itself from the competition. Eschewing the cramped third rows of the past, Lexus has used the BEV platform to create a flat floor and a 3,050 mm wheelbase.

    • Captain’s Seats: The second row features heated and ventilated captain’s chairs with power ottomans.
    • Immersive Audio: An available 21-speaker Mark Levinson sound system is integrated with the “Sensory Concierge,” which synchronizes ambient lighting, music, and climate to suit the driver’s mood.
    • Sustainable Craftsmanship: In a nod to Japanese heritage, the interior features Forged Bamboo trim panels, crafted using a new film-layering technique that is both sustainable and visually striking.

    3. Tech and Charging: Built for the Future

The TZ is the first Lexus to adopt the NACS (North American Charging Standard) port natively, while also supporting high-speed DC fast charging.

    FeatureSpecification
DC Fast Charging10% to 80% in 35 minutes (at 150 kW)
Aerodynamics0.27 Cd (with flush door handles & aero wheels)
    Safety SuiteLexus Safety System+ 4.0
Multimedia14-inch Interface with AT&T 5G and wireless Apple CarPlay

One unique feature for the enthusiast is the Interactive Manual Drive system, which uses haptic feedback and digital soundscapes to simulate an 8-speed transmission, complete with the legendary Lexus V10 engine note.

    The Verdict

Expected to carry a starting price near $60,000 (approx. ₹50 lakh+ before taxes), the Lexus TZ is a direct challenge to the Volvo EX90 and the Kia EV9. It brings a level of material quality and “omotenashi” (hospitality) that few in the segment can match.

Does a 300-mile range and a “V10 sound mode” make the TZ the ultimate family EV for you? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
