The Nissan Gravite has already made waves as a budget-friendly rival to the Renault Triber and Maruti Ertiga. However, for high-mileage users and large families, petrol costs are always a concern. With the launch of the new Motozen-developed CNG kit, Nissan is offering a solution that slashes running costs without turning your 7-seater into a 5-seater.

1. The Twin-Cylinder Innovation

Traditional CNG tanks are large, heavy “bombs” that sit in the boot, usually forcing you to fold or remove the third-row seats entirely. Nissan has bypassed this by using a smart twin-cylinder layout (2 x 25 litres).

  • Vertical Stacking: By stacking two smaller 25-litre tanks vertically, Nissan has managed to retain the full 7-seat functionality of the Gravite.
  • The Boot Space Catch: While the seats remain usable, the vertical tanks do consume almost all of the 84-litre boot space available when seven people are on board. However, for those who value “people-moving” over luggage capacity, this is a revolutionary packaging feat in the sub-4-metre segment.

2. Technical Specs and Compatibility

The retrofit kit is specifically tuned for the Gravite’s 1.0-litre naturally aspirated engine, which produces 72 PS and 96 Nm in petrol mode.

FeatureSpecification
Kit TypeSequential BS6.2 & ICAT-Approved
Tank Capacity50 Litres Total (2 x 25L)
TechnologyDynamic Advancer Technology for smooth power
FuelingDedicated point located under the fuel lid
TransmissionAvailable for Manual Transmission variants only

While official CNG mileage figures are still being finalized, it is expected to hover around the 25–27 km/kg mark, making it significantly more economical for daily urban commutes than the petrol-only 19.3 kmpl.

3. Dealer-Level Assurance

Unlike third-party kits that might void your warranty, this is a factory-approved solution.

  • Installation: Available across 60 cities in 16 states at authorized Nissan dealerships.
  • Warranty: The kit comes with a 3-year or 1,00,000 km warranty (provided by the third-party vendor but supported through Nissan), mirroring the standard warranty of the car itself.
  • Safety: The system features heavy-duty 8.1 mm thick cylinders and seamless petrol-to-CNG switchover tech.

The Verdict

At an all-in price of roughly ₹6.5 lakh to ₹9.7 lakh (including the kit), the Gravite CNG is now one of the most affordable 7-seater “green” cars in India. It effectively undercuts the Maruti Ertiga CNG by a significant margin while offering better seating flexibility than the current Renault Triber.
