The wait for a more efficient Seltos is finally over. On April 1, 2026, Kia America hosted the global debut of the all-new, second-generation 2027 Kia Seltos at the New York International Auto Show. While the SUV has grown in every dimension, the real headline is the introduction of the first-ever Seltos HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicle), a model specifically designed to bridge the gap between traditional petrol power and the brand’s ambitious EV goals.

With the first-generation Seltos already a massive success in India and the US, this new iteration isn’t just a facelift—it’s a complete mechanical evolution aimed at dethroning hybrids like the Maruti Grand Vitara and Toyota Hyryder.

The Powertrain: Turbo-Hybrid meets eAWD

For the US and global markets, the Seltos Hybrid moves away from the basic naturally aspirated setups found in smaller cars.

  • 1.6L Turbo-Hybrid: The new system is built around a refined 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine paired with a powerful electric motor and a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT). This setup is expected to deliver approximately 141 hp and 264 Nm of torque, similar to the system currently powering the Kia Niro.
  • The eAWD Innovation: For the first time, Kia is offering an Electronic All-Wheel Drive (eAWD) system on the Seltos Hybrid. Instead of a heavy mechanical driveshaft, a rear-mounted electric motor provides on-demand traction, improving both fuel efficiency and off-road stability without sacrificing cabin space.

Interior: The “Trinity Display” Experience

Inside, the 2027 Seltos feels like a vehicle from a segment above. The cabin is dominated by the 30-inch Trinity Display, a seamless glass panel that integrates three screens:

  1. 12.3-inch Digital Cluster: Providing high-resolution driver data.
  2. 12.3-inch Infotainment: With wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
  3. 5-inch Climate Panel: A dedicated touchscreen solely for HVAC controls, similar to the flagship Kia EV9.

Thanks to a 60mm increase in wheelbase, the new Seltos also offers class-leading rear legroom, making it a much more viable option for chauffeur-driven buyers in markets like India.

The India Roadmap: Localisation is Key

While the Seltos Hybrid is set to hit US showrooms in late 2026, the India launch is projected for early 2027. Kia India’s strategy focuses heavily on “Deep Localisation.”

  • 1.5L Hybrid for India: Unlike the US-spec turbo-hybrid, the Indian version is likely to use a localised 1.5-litre naturally aspirated hybrid system. By manufacturing critical components like battery modules and electric motors at the Anantapur facility, Kia aims to keep the hybrid premium within a competitive ₹2 lakh to ₹3 lakh range over standard petrol variants.
  • Efficiency Goals: Kia is targeting a real-world fuel efficiency of over 25 km/l, positioning the Seltos Hybrid as a direct “Diesel alternative” as emission norms like CAFE 3 become more stringent.

Verdict

The introduction of the Seltos Hybrid is a strategic masterstroke. It offers the high-tech, “BADASS” appeal the Seltos is known for, while addressing the growing demand for fuel-efficient, eco-friendly mobility. As Kia aims for 25% of its India sales to come from hybrids by 2030, the Seltos Hybrid is clearly the vehicle that will lead that charge.
