The micro-SUV segment in India has a new benchmark. Following months of anticipation, Hyundai Motor India Limited officially pulled the curtains off the 2026 Hyundai Exter Facelift today, March 20, 2026. Starting at an aggressive ₹5.79 lakh (ex-showroom), this mid-cycle refresh isn’t just a cosmetic makeover; it’s a strategic move to solidify the Exter’s position against the recently updated Tata Punch.

Since its original debut in 2023, the Exter has crossed the 2-lakh sales milestone. This 2026 edition brings over 25 major enhancements across design, safety, and in-cabin technology, aiming to attract young, first-time SUV buyers who refuse to compromise on features.

A Bolder, More “SUV” Stance

Visually, the 2026 Exter appears more mature. The front fascia has been completely revised with a wider black radiator grille and a more muscular bumper design. While it retains the signature H-shaped LED DRLs, they are now connected by a new black garnish that gives the car a more assertive road presence.

The side profile gets a fresh set of 15-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels and chunkier wheel arch cladding, while the rear features a new wing-type spoiler and a redesigned tailgate. To keep things fresh, Hyundai has also introduced two new color options: Golden Bronze and the enthusiast-favorite Titanium Black Matte.

Cabin Upgrades: Premium Meets Practical

Step inside, and you’ll find a much-needed departure from the all-black interiors of the previous model. The 2026 facelift debuts a dual-tone Navy and Grey theme, accented by a 3D carbon-pattern finish on the dashboard.

  • Driver Comfort: The driver now gets a folding armrest and a sporty D-cut (flat-bottom) steering wheel, along with segment-first metal pedals.
  • Tech-Heavy: A new 12.9-inch infotainment screen (on top trims) now supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
  • Connectivity: With over 60 Bluelink features and 300+ voice commands that work without an internet connection, the Exter remains the most “connected” car in its class.

The Power of Four Cylinders

Mechanically, Hyundai has stuck with the tried-and-tested 1.2-litre four-cylinder Kappa petrol engine. Producing 83 hp and 114 Nm, it remains the only four-cylinder engine in the segment, offering a level of refinement and smoothness that the three-cylinder Tata Punch struggle to match.

For the efficiency-conscious, the Hy-CNG Duo variant now comes with a dual-cylinder setup. By splitting the CNG tank, Hyundai has freed up significant space, offering 225 litres of usable boot volume—a massive win for families who need to carry luggage alongside their fuel savings.

Safety as a Standard, Not an Option

Perhaps the most impressive part of the 2026 update is the safety package. Hyundai now offers 30 safety features as standard across all variants. This includes six airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and Hill-Start Assist Control (HAC). Higher variants also benefit from a segment-first built-in dashcam with dual cameras, providing peace of mind right out of the showroom.

Verdict: The Value King?

With a price range stretching from ₹5.79 lakh to ₹9.41 lakh, the 2026 Hyundai Exter Facelift offers a compelling package of safety, tech, and refined performance. It’s no longer just a budget choice; it’s a sophisticated micro-SUV that feels a segment higher than its price suggests.
