Mahindra & Mahindra has officially commenced road trials for its next major electric vehicle (EV), internally codenamed “B07.” The production-ready prototype of the SUV, derived from the original BE.07 concept, was spotted undergoing heavy-camouflage testing on Indian roads in early March 2026. This milestone marks the formal transition from concept to reality, with the company confirming a full commercial launch scheduled for 2027.

Design Evolution: From Concept to Production

While the initial BE.07 concept showcased at the 2022 “Futurescape” event featured an edgy, futuristic aesthetic, the production-ready mule suggests a more pragmatic approach. Mahindra appears to be toning down certain aggressive elements to prioritize daily usability and market appeal.

The spy shots reveal a traditional, upright SUV silhouette that emphasizes interior volume over the sportier, coupe-like lines of the smaller BE 6. Key design observations include:

  • Conventional SUV Stance: A straight beltline and a near-flat roofline, which are intended to provide superior headroom for rear-seat passengers.
  • Lighting Signature: While the concept featured sharp C-shaped LED signatures, the test mule indicates a more conventional headlight housing at the top, flanked by vertical daytime running lights (DRLs) integrated into the bumper mid-section.
  • Aerodynamic Efficiency: The prototype sports flush-fitted door handles and aerodynamic wheels designed to reduce drag, crucial for maximizing range in a vehicle of this size.

Platform and Technical Capabilities

The B07 is built on Mahindra’s dedicated INGLO electric-origin architecture. Unlike platforms adapted from traditional petrol or diesel engines, INGLO is purpose-built for high-density battery integration and modularity.

Technical expectations for the B07 include:

  • Battery and Range: The SUV is expected to utilize battery packs ranging from 60 kWh to 79 kWh, with a real-world driving range projected to exceed 500 kilometers on a single charge.
  • Charging Infrastructure: The architecture supports 175 kW DC fast-charging, capable of replenishing the battery from 5% to 80% in approximately 30 minutes.
  • Drivetrain: It will likely offer both single-motor (rear-wheel drive) and dual-motor (all-wheel drive) configurations, providing a balance of efficiency and performance.

Interior and Feature Set

While the cabin of the test mule remains largely obscured, industry consensus suggests that the B07 will feature a dashboard-spanning, triple-screen digital cockpit. This setup, already utilized in the XEV 9e and XEV 9S, will likely integrate advanced connectivity, over-the-air (OTA) update capabilities, and a comprehensive suite of Level 2+ Autonomous Driving Assistance Systems (ADAS).

Strategic Market Positioning

With a length of approximately 4.6 meters, the B07 is positioned to compete directly in the premium mid-size electric SUV segment against rivals like the Tata Harrier EV and the VinFast VF 7. During a recent quarterly earnings call, Mahindra’s leadership identified this model as a “very big volume driver,” indicating that it will be a cornerstone of the company’s second phase of EV expansion. By blending a conventional SUV shape with bleeding-edge electric performance, Mahindra aims to convince traditional family SUV buyers to transition to electric mobility by 2027.
