Nissan India is finally ready to break its “one-model” streak. After relying heavily on the Magnite, the automaker is shifting gears with the Nissan Gravite, a three-row, 7-seater MPV slated for a high-profile reveal on February 17, 2026.
While it shares its DNA with the Renault Triber, the Gravite isn’t just a badge-swapping exercise. It serves as the spearhead for Nissan’s “Resurgence Strategy,” aiming to capture the value-conscious Indian family market.
Design: The “Baby Patrol” Aesthetic
Nissan has worked hard to ensure the Gravite looks more premium than its donor vehicle.
- The V-Motion Face: The front end is dominated by Nissan’s signature honeycomb grille and a more upright, aggressive stance.
- Rugged Touches: To appeal to India’s love for SUVs, the MPV features muscular bumper inserts, faux skid plates, and prominent “GRAVITE” lettering across the hood.
- Lighting: Expect slim LED DRLs and redesigned tail lamps that give it a sharper, more modern nighttime signature compared to the Triber.
Interior: Practicality Meets Tech
The cabin is designed for modularity, catering to large families who need flexibility.
- The “5+2” Layout: Like its cousin, the Gravite will feature a removable third row, allowing owners to switch between maximum seating and massive boot space.
- Connectivity: A free-standing 8-inch touchscreen will serve as the hub, featuring wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
- Creature Comforts: For a budget-friendly car, the expected inclusion of a 7-inch digital cluster, wireless charging, and roof-mounted AC vents for the rear rows will be a significant draw.
Under the Hood: The Powertrain
The Gravite will stick to a tried-and-tested mechanical setup focused on fuel efficiency:
- Engine: A 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine.
- Output: Approximately 72 PS and 96 Nm of torque.
- Transmission: Buyers can choose between a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT (Automated Manual Transmission).
- CNG Option: Rumors suggest a dealer-fit CNG kit may be available at launch to cater to high-mileage users.
Pricing and Competition
Positioned as an affordable alternative to the Maruti Ertiga and a direct rival to the Renault Triber, the Gravite is expected to launch with an aggressive price tag starting around ₹6.20 lakh (ex-showroom).
The Big Picture
The Gravite is just the first step. Nissan plans to follow this up with the Tekton (a mid-size SUV) later in 2026 and a premium 7-seater SUV in 2027. If the Gravite succeeds, it could provide the volume Nissan needs to rebuild its dealership network across the country.
