In a historic moment for the Indian luxury automotive market, Ferrari has officially pulled the covers off its most advanced supercar yet: the 849 Testarossa. Unveiled on March 14, 2026, at an exclusive national premiere at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai, this plug-in hybrid super sports berlinetta marks the beginning of a deeper commitment by the Italian marque to the Indian enthusiast community.

Positioned at the pinnacle of Ferrari’s global lineup, the 849 Testarossa replaces the revered SF90 Stradale, setting a new benchmark for what a road-legal performance vehicle can achieve.

Engineering Mastery: The Plug-In Hybrid Powerhouse

At the heart of the 849 Testarossa lies a masterpiece of automotive engineering: a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine paired with three high-performance electric motors. This hybrid setup delivers a staggering combined output of 1,050 CV (approx. 1,036 bhp).

The performance figures are nothing short of breath-taking:

  • 0–100 km/h: Under 2.3 seconds
  • 0–200 km/h: 6.35 seconds
  • Top Speed: Exceeding 330 km/h

The powertrain features two electric motors on the front axle and a third positioned between the engine and the 8-speed dual-clutch transmission. Beyond sheer speed, the hybrid system provides an electric-only driving range of 25 km, allowing for near-silent operation in urban environments—a practical touch for a car that is otherwise a track-focused beast.

Heritage Design Meets Futuristic Aerodynamics

The “Testarossa” nameplate is one of the most iconic in Ferrari’s history, and the new 849 model wears it with purpose. The design team has masterfully balanced retro-futurism with modern aerodynamic necessity.

The front fascia is defined by L-shaped LED headlamps connected by a bold black strip, a deliberate nod to the pop-up headlights of the 1980s. The bodywork is dominated by active aerodynamic elements, including a twin-tail rear design and an active rear spoiler, which work in harmony to generate over 400kg of downforce at high speeds. Every curve, slash, and intake has been sculpted to optimize airflow, cooling the massive powertrain while keeping the car planted to the tarmac.

Why India Matters

The Mumbai premiere was led by Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna and Chief Marketing & Commercial Officer Enrico Galliera. Their presence underscores India’s transformation into a critical hub for global luxury. As Vigna noted, the Indian Ferrari owner base is among the youngest in the world, characterized by an infectious entrepreneurial spirit and a deep passion for motorsport culture.

Priced at ₹10.37 crore (ex-showroom), the 849 Testarossa is not a mass-production vehicle. It is a rare, high-performance work of art destined for a select group of collectors. With customer deliveries expected to commence in the second half of 2026, the 849 Testarossa is set to become the ultimate status symbol for India’s rising generation of performance-car enthusiasts.
