When Toyota first introduced the blocky, upright Vellfire to India back in February 2020, traditional automotive analysts were skeptical. It was a vehicle priced well north of a crore, it had no conventional boot, and it defied the sleek, muscular aesthetic that Indian luxury buyers usually look for in flagship sedans and full-size SUVs.

Yet, the data reveals a spectacular, unlikely success story. According to the latest SIAM wholesale data, the Toyota Vellfire has officially crossed the 5,000-unit cumulative sales milestone, reaching exactly 5,001 units. What makes this achievement even more staggering is the velocity of its recent growth: more than half of those total sales—2,756 units—were achieved in just the last 25 months, proving that India’s ultra-wealthy have developed a massive appetite for luxury lounges on wheels.

A Record-Shattering Fiscal Year 2026

The arrival of the second-generation Vellfire in August 2023 completely supercharged the model’s trajectory. While sales lingered in the double and lower triple digits during its initial years, FY2026 emerged as the Vellfire’s best-ever sales year, with Toyota dispatching a record 1,483 units. This represents a massive 56% year-on-year surge compared to the 1,155 units sold in FY25.

The momentum hasn’t slowed down either. In April 2026 alone, Toyota shipped 118 units of the luxury MPV, compared to a mere 20 units in the same month last year.

Why High-Net-Worth Buyers are Choosing the “Box”

The Vellfire buyer isn’t an automotive enthusiast looking for corner-carving dynamics. This is a purely chauffeur-driven purchase favored by top corporate executives, prominent promoters, and celebrities.

The vehicle’s appeal lies entirely in its unmatched interior packaging:

  • Executive Lounge Seats: The second row features massive, heated, and ventilated captain chairs complete with powered Ottoman leg rests and massage functions.
  • Massive Proportions: Measuring over 5 meters in length with a sprawling 3,000mm wheelbase, it shares its premium underpinnings with the ultra-exclusive Lexus LM, offering a sense of cabin headroom and “old money” presence that low-slung luxury sedans simply cannot replicate.
  • Tech-Loaded Cockpit: Passengers have access to a massive 14-inch touchscreen infotainment display, roof-mounted passenger controls, powered sunshades, and a premium multi-speaker audio system.

The Efficiency Masterstroke: Self-Charging Hybrid Tech

Under the hood, the Vellfire utilizes Toyota’s proven 2.5-litre, four-cylinder strong-hybrid petrol powertrain, which works in tandem with an advanced electric motor to put out a combined 193 hp and 240 Nm of torque.

Paired with an e-CVT automatic transmission, this self-charging system allows the heavy MPV to glide silently in pure electric mode during dense, stop-and-go city traffic. Because it generates electricity through regenerative braking and engine power, there is absolutely zero dependency on external charging infrastructure. The result? A highly impressive claimed fuel efficiency of 19.28 km/pl—a figure that keeps the driving range exceptionally long for cross-city highway runs.

The Verdict: An Unshakeable Halo Product

Currently positioned as Toyota’s second most expensive passenger vehicle in India after the legendary Land Cruiser 300, the Vellfire ranges between ₹1.20 crore and ₹1.30 crore (ex-showroom).

By deliberately managing the vehicle as an imported CBU (Completely Built-Up) halo product, Toyota has kept supply tightly aligned with premium demand. This strategy has kept residual values incredibly strong, cementing the Vellfire not just as a transport vehicle, but as a premier corporate asset.
