Maruti Suzuki India Limited officially marked the 10th anniversary of the Brezza on March 2, 2026, celebrating a decade of leadership in the compact SUV segment. Since its global debut at the 13th Auto Expo in early 2016, the Brezza has not merely participated in the SUV boom; it has defined it. With over 1.4 million units sold in ten years, the Brezza remains a cornerstone of the Indian automotive market, currently commanding a 31% share of its segment.

The journey of the Brezza is a case study in market adaptation. Originally launched as the “Vitara Brezza” with a 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine, the model successfully navigated the industry’s shift away from diesel in 2020. Today, it stands as a versatile petrol and CNG powerhouse, reflecting the changing preferences of the modern Indian family.

The Evolution of a Segment Leader

The Brezza’s success can be attributed to its “TECT” platform architecture and its transition through two distinct generations. The current 1.5-litre K15C Smart Hybrid engine provides a balance of refinement and high fuel efficiency that competitors often struggle to match. However, the 10th-anniversary milestone is also being used as a springboard for the next technical leap.

Industry reports and recent sightings of test mules suggest that the 2026 model year will introduce a “Facelift Plus” variant. This update is expected to address one of the primary criticisms of the current CNG model: boot space. Maruti is reportedly working on an underbody CNG tank system, which would relocate the fuel cylinders beneath the floor, restoring the full 328-litre luggage capacity to CNG buyers.

Why the Brezza Maintains 56% Pre-Determined Consideration

According to internal data shared by Maruti Suzuki’s Senior Executive Officer, Partho Banerjee, roughly 56% of customers entering a showroom have already decided on the Brezza before even taking a test drive. This level of brand trust is built on four pillars:

  1. Safety Standards: Maintaining a consistent 4-star Global NCAP rating (and targeting 5 stars under Bharat NCAP) with standard features like six airbags and ESP on higher trims.
  2. Feature Density: The 2026 anniversary models now feature a 360-degree camera, Head-Up Display (HUD), and a 9-inch SmartPlay Pro+ infotainment system.
  3. Resale Value: The Brezza consistently ranks among the top five Indian vehicles for high residual value after three to five years of ownership.
  4. Service Accessibility: With over 4,000 touchpoints across India, the cost of ownership remains significantly lower than its rivals.

Looking Ahead: The 2026 Roadmap

As the Brezza enters its second decade, the competition has never been fiercer. The rise of the Tata Nexon and Kia Sonet has forced Maruti to innovate faster. The upcoming Q4 2026 update is rumored to include a Level 2 ADAS suite and a new 6-speed manual gearbox, specifically designed to improve highway cruising and mid-range performance.

By staying true to its DNA—compact dimensions, rugged styling, and dependable engineering—the Brezza has managed to remain “the people’s SUV.” As production begins at the new Kharkhoda facility in April 2026, Maruti Suzuki is clearly preparing for another decade where the Brezza leads the charge in an increasingly electrified and tech-driven market.
